PROFESSOR THEO KOFIDIS

Professor Theo Kofidis is a globally recognised leader in cardiothoracic surgery, celebrated for his mastery of adult cardiac surgery, minimally invasive and robotic techniques, and relentless surgical innovation. He serves as Director of the International Heart Surgery Center of Greece at Hygeia Hospital, where he also heads the A’ Heart Surgery Division, and holds a Professorship at the National University of Singapore.
Over more than a decade as Full Professor and Director at the National University of Singapore, he established Southeast Asia’s first comprehensive Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery programme and led his department to a place among the world’s top 100 hospitals, as ranked by Newsweek.
His clinical expertise encompasses heart failure management, robotic and endoscopic valve surgery, hybrid coronary revascularisation, and complex minimally invasive procedures. He is the founder of Kardia Pte Ltd, a company pioneering disruptive technologies for heart valve therapy, and the creator of the “Read-Scan-Watch” educational model, which integrates digital learning with surgical training.
An elected Fellow of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, President of the 2025 Asian Society for CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery Conference, and adviser to leading medtech companies including Medtronic, Abbott, and Johnson & Johnson, Professor Kofidis is currently developing the world’s first biomimetic heart valve in California.
Beyond medicine, he is a licensed pilot, an avid photographer, and a devoted family man.

(Adj) Professor Theo Kofidis has received multiple awards from international bodies, including the European Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, The Onassis Heart Center, The Hellenic Cardiology Society (Lifetime Achievement Award), and the Indian Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (Lifetime Achievement Award), among others.
He serves as a consultant or advisory board member for prominent companies such as Medtronic, Johnson & Johnson, Abbott, Livanova, and others. His innovative QR-code-based book on minimally invasive cardiac surgery (Taylor & Francis/CRC Press, NY/London) introduced a novel educational concept of Read-Scan-Watch.
He also serves as Chairman of the Education Committee of the Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (ASCVTS) and Chairman of the CT Surgery Chapter of the Singapore Cardiac Society.

(Adj) Professor Theo Kofidis trained at some of the world’s leading medical institutions, including Rochester, NY; Texas Heart Institute, Houston; Hannover, Germany; and Stanford, CA, USA. He had the opportunity to learn from renowned experts in general and heart surgery, such as George Hicks, Seymour Schwartz, Denton Cooley, and Sir Magdi Yacoub.
He holds various international positions and has lectured for organisations like the American Medical Association, the FDA, and the Bill Gates Research Institute. As an academic teacher, proctor, and consultant for several companies in the medical field, he conducts events and workshops in various countries, sharing knowledge in minimally invasive surgery with doctors and patients.
